Changing Students' Lives, Creating Brighter Futures

Medical Assistant Back Office

Assist physicians in the back office of a doctors office, clinic, with basic patient care procedures including lab work. A 120-160-hours clinical assignment at a different site by arrangement is required.

Prerequisite: High School reading level and passing Medical Terminology with a “C” or better. A physical exam and shots (TB, Tdap, Flu, Titer) are required by the fifth week of class.

Note: Purchase of uniforms and school supplies will be the responsibility of students

Bio:

Maureen Miramontes has been teaching at SVAE since 2003, bringing decades of real-world healthcare experience into the classroom. Miramontes built a strong foundation in the medical field shortly after high school, attending medical assisting school and securing a position at Valley Medical Center, where she worked for nine years. She later gained additional experience as a lead medical assistant at a small clinic and as a clinical supervisor at Good Samaritan Hospital. Her background also includes 18 years working as a registered nurse in clinical settings. Since 2012, Miramontes has also served as the Program Director of the Health Technologies Department at De Anza College. Today, she draws on her experience in medical assisting, nursing, education, and program leadership to help students develop the practical skills, professional connections, and confidence needed to succeed in healthcare careers.

 

Why do you teach Career and Technical Education?

I enjoy seeing my students develop skills that will directly benefit their careers. Watching them grow in confidence as they learn practical skills is incredibly rewarding. Teaching allows me to share my passion for healthcare with others.
